REGISTRATION
FOR THE
DIVERSITY
VISA
LOTTERY
2006 IS
CLOSED
Each
year
the U.S.
Diversity
Lottery
Program
allocates
approximately 50,000
new
immigrant
visas
for
individuals
from
across
the
world.
If
you win
the
lottery
you will
be able
to apply
for
permanent
resident
visas
for
yourself,
your
spouse
and your
children.
Permanent
resident
status
will
allow
you
to
permanently
live and
work in
the U.S.
Generally,
in order
to apply
for the
lottery,
you
must:
1. be
a native
of a
qualifying
country
(see
below
for last
year's
qualifying
countries);
and
2.
have
either a
high
school
education
or
equivalent
or
within
the past
five
years
have two
years of
work
experience
in an
occupation
that
requires
at least
two
years of
training
or
experience.
For this year's lottery, natives of
the following countries
are not
eligible to apply
because they sent a
total of more than
50,000 immigrants to the
U.S. in the previous
five years:
CANADA, CHINA
(mainland-born),
COLOMBIA, DOMINICAN
REPUBLIC, EL SALVADOR,
HAITI, INDIA, JAMAICA,
MEXICO, PAKISTAN,
PHILIPPINES, RUSSIA,
SOUTH KOREA, UNITED
KINGDOM (except Northern
Ireland) and its
dependent territories,
and VIETNAM. Persons
born in Hong Kong SAR,
Macau SAR and Taiwan are
eligible.
The
Diversity
Lottery
Program
randomly
picks
well
over 50,000
visa
candidates
who may ultimately
obtain a visa.
If you
win the
lottery
it is
important
that you
act
promptly
because
having
your
lottery entry
form
selected
does not
guarantee
you will
get a
visa.
Only the
first
50,000
lottery
winners
to
submit
their
visa
applications will get
a Green
Card. Individuals
are
chosen
to
receive
the visa
by
chance,
not by
merit.

FAQs
Steps
The
Department
of State
annually publishes
specific
instructions
on how
to apply
for the
Diversity
Visa.
These
instructions
are
typically
made
available
prior to
the
registration
period
which begins
in early
November
and lasts
approximately
sixty
days.
In spite
of these
instructions
each
year
many
lottery
entries
are
disqualified
for
failing
to
properly
follow
directions. In
a May
1999
press
release,
the
State
Department
noted
that
during
that
year’s
lottery
2.5
million
entries
out of a
total of
10.5
million
were
thus
disqualified.
Last
year,
over 3
million
lottery
applications
were
rejected
because
they did
not
comply
with the
official
guidelines.
Fees
The
Department
of State
does not
charge
any
initial
fee for
entering
the
lottery.
However,
using
the Law Office
of
Michael
O'Toole
to
submit
your
entry
will
ensure
that
your
entry
form
contains
all
required
information;
that it
is
properly
prepared,
formatted
and
completed;
that it
contains
all
necessary
material;
and that
it is
submitted
during
the
registration
period.
In
addition,
if
your
lottery
entry
form is
selected,
the fees
you pay
the law
office
will be
credited
to any
future
fees
should
you
retain
our
services
in
preparing
and
filing
your
application(s)
for
immigrant
visas.
Fees
for
Attorney
Services:
-
$40
for
the
preparation
and
submission
of
an individual
lottery
entry
form
-
$75
for
the
preparation
and
submission
of a
family
lottery
entry
form
which
includes
2
lottery
entry
forms
submissions
(one
for
each
spouse)
doubling
your
chances
of
winning.
To
register
for this
year's
Lottery
through
the Law
Office
Fill out
the

it.
You will
then be
directed

to an
online

for the
Lottery.
Documents
A recent

State has moved to digital submission of
entry forms, your picture must be in
digital format. To accomplish this, you

The lists below show the
